This book had an interesting plot and a good basis idea. The main character, Janie, wasn't very relate able, but I liked the way the romance progressed through the story. We all had our doubts about Cabe, but in the end it was obvious he cared about her and didn't treat her like a freak throughout the book. Overall I wouldn't necessarily say it is a must-read, but it was a short book that I could put down and pick back up several times.

Wake was a unique and fast-paced read, that really caught my attention. I loved the writing style and the characters. I have to mention the awesome cover too, stunning, it is some of the best I have ever seen.

I really did like this book, but I had trouble getting through it just because how the main character kind of falls into peoples dreams. Don't get me wrong it's good and I liked the characters espcecially Cabel he was kind of the mysterious one. I had a hard time making myself read it, but like all other series I will read the otehrs just because i like to finish series, and who knows maybe the next one will be better for me. It's on my TBR list.

Okay. What the hell?

I'm giving this book two stars just for a few moments, (view spoiler)[ like the scene where Janie kisses Cabel's scars, it was so beautiful I must say.  (hide spoiler)]
But the rest of it... Just no. I expected it to be much better, I found the idea really interesting but it turned out to be something quite plain and simple and just... I don't know. Just nothing.

The relationship between Janie and Cabel has cute moments, but it's a bit surrealist.

I didn't like that the characters (all of them, or most) were always swearing out of nowere. I don't know why. It just didn't fit in the story, it was out of place. Oh, and the drinking thing hahaha. "Hey, wanna drink something before dinner?" "Yeah, pour me a glass of vodka." ooooookay.

I didn't like the dreams either, they weren't interesting at all. There's no exaplanation of her power... I mean, the whole dreaming thing is supposed to be the point of the book, and I felt like it was just something that was passing by.

(view spoiler)[ And the Cabel thing? No, seriously, what the fuck? "Oh, i don't know how to explain him behaveing like a dick, hmm, let me think... Oh, yeah, let's just say this boy is secretly a cop. Sounds believable. Well, it actually doesn't, but who cares! lol Let's put it anyway!" Okay. It has nothing to do with the plot. What the fuck? Why?!

Janie's mom........ what? The most unrealistic character I've ever seen. Uhm, so... She's alcoholic, but apparently no one could care less about that, mainly, her own daughter. There's not a single moment in the book of Janie struggling with the problem, or feeling miserable, or trying to help her mom, or hating her for just doing that... or something! She just didn't care! My mom is alcoholic, who careees I have more important things in my life to think about like decide wether I should believe that Cabel didn't sleep with Shay (or whatever her name was) or not. Oh yeah, she once says that she will stay in a university near to her home so she could keep an eye on her mom, yeah sure, like you worried a single time about her.  (hide spoiler)]

The whole concept just doesn't work.

Meh. I had high hopes for this book, but it didn't deliver. The concept was cool, but it just failed to be truly interesting. I'll read the other two books in the series just because I started it. I hope they get better with time.

I would not have finished this book if it weren't for a bet in my family in how long it would take me finish. Reading this was like shoving glass into my eyes. I felt like I was reading horribly written fan fiction by 12 years old who just want to be in love. Janie and Cabel go from strangers, to lovers, to in a huge argument and heart broken in less than two days. Cabel just accepts that she can enter dreams and no one really questions this, nor is it ever explained. There are unnecessary breaks in the formatting. The idea is interesting but it was so poorly executed. This story is creepy, flat, and not worth the hour and 12 minutes it took to read.

I kind of expected more then what the book gave. I wanted there to be bigger and more exciting things going on with Janies dream powers. The story for me wasnt very memorable and I likely wont read the next book or books in this series.

Okay, so, before everyone starts (rightfully) throwing tomatoes and other vegetables at me, hear me out: I love Lisa McMann. A LOT. And have for around a decade. My feelings towards Wake are, uh, lukewarm at best? I think that, yes, if I had read this in order and as a teenager I would be a lot more fond of it. (If I remember correctly the second book was electrifying and I gave it five stars when I read it, even though I didn't read this one.)

But, I didn't read it then, and Wake just... didn't thoroughly impress me? My biggest issue with Wake is the way we're just blindly tossed into the plotline with no real knowledge of what's going on. This doesn't always work for me and in the case of this novel, it REALLY doesn't. There's very little time spent on the hows and the whys, and instead it feels like Wake spends the most of its time throwing us into a plot and not really explaining it.

Janie, our main character, has no real knowledge of why she can stumble into the dreams of others. So, at least, we aren't alone in this thrust of confusion and context. Still, it wasn't something I could bring myself to fully overlook.

It can feel a little incoherent at times. The premise is thrilling and promising; the right mix of danger and magic. (Add in your standard teenage angst and hormones. A little sarcasm here.) But, mot of the time, it just lacks the extra kick that is necessary to make the narration flow easier. Minimal world building is Wake's biggest flaw. Its strongest quality is its witty dialogue, and the fact that these characters sound like teenagers from the era it takes place in.

Where the world-building lacks, the character development soars and is what I stayed for. Wake felt very much so like it would lean on its mystery--the powers of our main character--but at the end of the day, it felt more character driven than anything. Wake sets the stage for a promising future and because of this, I'll be rereading the sequel.

Admittedly, I did struggle with Wake more than I connected with it. Lisa McMann makes the case for my attention by the final half of the novel, though, and picks up the pace a little more urgently. If anything, it was a quick and entertaining read!

I don't have too much to say about this book, since it was fairly short. It wasn't a bad read necessarily but it could've been so much better. I found it a bit choppy but I think the author wrote the book how she did more to create a certain effect. I think it's worth reading, it's not long at all. But it doesn't really make you feel like you HAVE to read the next one, I feel like this could've been good as just one book, with a couple more loose ends tied up. Still not bad, it was enjoyable!
