Following all of it won’t win the war, so as with any mastery, first one must learn the rules and bend it when it fits. That way, in 10-20 years, Lois, I too hope the next generation can read this and think: why would I need to do it?

I laughed out loud on many occasions throughout this read (or, 'listen,' since I used the audio book), because some of Lois' tips are hilariously obvious ("don't take things personally"), but then others were unexpected yet make total sense when she explains. For example, "don't feed people" threw me for a loop, because I love feeding people. Especially when it's a delicious treat that I have too much of and want to share with other people who appreciate delicious homemade treats, be they coworkers or not. Alas, that habit of mine adds zero value to my job, and furthermore, creates a motherly impression. Sigh. I may read this book to refresh myself again. And again. And again.
