A great balance between a well-researched gruesome investigation and an enticing character story, with just the right amount of romance, I loved it. 
It is a pretty dark read so of course I loved it. The killer was an abominable person, which I love, the victims were involved in very dark transactions, and the main character was just the right amount of damaged to be interesting but not annoying.
I loved the tone, the setting (just been to Victoria a few days before reading this, what are the odds??) and the fact that the author doesn't shy away from crude details. Finally a truly dark thriller!!
Can't wait to read book 2.
