Hmmm... I liked Denise Jaden's Never Enough more. I don't know, maybe it was the fact that I don't quite get the religious aspect, maybe it was the fact that I never really connected with Brie, but Losing Faith didn't quite do it for me.

Losing Faith is a book about Brie, who must deal with the death of her sister (Faith) who she never really liked due to how religious Faith was. Soon she realizes that Faith's death doesn't make sense and when she figures out the truth, she realizes that she has put herself in danger as well. The whole martyr-sacrifice-suicide-ish thing that Faith went through still doesn't make complete sense to me. I don't know is a great way to describe how I feel about Losing Faith. It was well-written. Characters were as well-developed as any good book's should be. The story was intriguing. But at the end, I don't feel anything, and I don't know if I should. I guess what I'm saying is, Losing Faith really didn't capture my interest. Yes, I read it all in one go, and I guess I liked it, and I know it was a good book, but it just slipped away after that.

I'm hoping that if I reread it, I'll be much more interested in it. So, fingers crossed. A lot of people seem to like this book, so I would tentatively recommend it. However, I'm just not sure.

Sometimes a book falls in your lap and you just think "oh well this will be a pleasant way to spend an evening," and then you spend the entire night reading it in one sitting because you NEED to find out what's going to happen next. That's what this book was like for me. I had no idea what this book was about before I started reading, even the summary doesn't give you a hint as to the journey you're about to be taken on when you open it. I was so uncomfortable during parts of this story, due to the suspenseful nature of the plot but thankfully nothing overtly scary, but it was very emotional and the subject matter was incredibly thought provoking. I loved the way the messages in the book were conveyed through Brie's own transformation as opposed to being preachy or self righteous. I also loved that there was humor interspersed with the emotion. Brie's train of thought sometimes veers off into the funny side of a situation and she had little quips and witty remarks that were the perfect note for the overall pace of the story.
