Is it dumb that after rereading this, I totally changed my mind on this? I gave this book a solid 5 stars before. Now, I just feel like the whole story is completely implausible and all over the place. Right at the end you get this crazy plot twist that's reads to me like woah-but-who-wasn't-expecting-it.

I'm kind of trying to figure out how I feel about this. Kaira and Armpit have no chemistry. I don't get the whole point of the money-making anyways. At the start of the book, Armpit has five goals. At the end of the book, Armpit has the same five goals (aka: during the course of the book, he pretty much did nothing).

I did like how Armpit treated Ginny, his ten year old neighbor with cerebal palsy. They're both misfits. Armpit doesn't judge Ginny, Ginny doesn't judge Armpit, and they're very close. Must be nice to be different from everyone else and still have someone you can trust and talk to.

I feel like before, I wasn't expecting that much. Of course, Small Steps was recommended to me by everyone. But I didn't really think it would be... jaw droppingly amazing. So when I first read it, my expectations were like 0. Obviously, Small Steps exceeded that. But when I reread it, my expectations were higher. And so, I suppose that's why I see more flaws than I did the first time.

Anyways, I think Small Steps definitely a good book. In no way am I saying that it's bad. It's very good. The story is unique, the book is well-written, but something just felt off. I don't know, maybe it's just me. I would recommend with caution. (Also: keep in mind I did not read Holes before reading this book.)

This was a fun sequel to Holes! I liked that we got to explore not only Armpit, who's a pretty underutilized character in Holes, but also what the boys did after leaving Camp Green Lake. There's some suspense that I personally felt was a bit unrealistic, but it was a fun book nonetheless!
