An enjoyable reread. I had read it for the first time when I was writing an essay on the Robin Hood film staring Erol Flynn and Ivanhoe was highly cited in the various books I had read. At the time though, I pretty much just skimmed it for bits relevant to my paper but this time I was able to lose myself in the language, the adventure and the derring-do.

This one's a classic. 

I really want to meet the people who decide what's classic and what's not.

So, Ivanhoe. Who's Ivanhoe? I don't know who Ivanhoe is but what I do know is everyone else, because you're reading more about secondary characters than Ivanhoe here. Hell, the fucking maid has more depth and character development than Ivanhoe does here.

What made me hate it is all the details and descriptions of every single detail on every damn thing. Pages and pages of descriptions. We GET IT. It's medieval, there's knights and castles and horses and armors and shit. We get it.

Other than that, the language in it becomes tedious and boring pretty fast, I mean with all the thees thys doust haths and all that. Again, we get it. It's old England. 

I would have rate this as ok, because the battles and everything that included Robin was fun to read. But the negatives were so many, so much frustration with the language and the details and everyone here hiding true identities and having nicknames, their secret nicknames had nicknames of their own. 

Goes without saying, it's going to take a lot for me to read another Scott book.
