"Samantha on the Race Problem" has been known by multiple titles including most notably "Samantha among the colored folks: My ideas on the race problem" and was initially published under the author's name Josiah Allen's wife before Marietta Holley officially became the recognized author. This nearly-lost work recounts life in the post-confederate south and describes the adjustment period southerners went through after the abolishment of slavery and the end of the Civil War. Though historically significant, this book is, in part, a work of fiction that has caused readers to become engrossed since its original publication in the late 1800s.
