The Women of Magliano

These women of Magliano are the inmates of an Italian insane asylum and the nuns who look after them. There is no one heroine. The hero is perhaps the doctor in charge of the institution, or more probably the reader, assailed by sordid, horrifying tragedy, in detail and en masse, beautifully and poignantly described.
