What I appreciate the most about this graphic novel is the absolutely stunning art style. I did feel like the world building and the plot got a bit to convoluted and hard to follow at times. But that being said, I still enjoyed it a lot and the side characters are the best!

So I actually really enjoyed this, which is surprising because I’ve been underwhelmed by most of the graphic novels I’ve read this year (I keep comparing everything to Saga).
This was extremely gruesome, bloody and captivating all at once. The art was also stunning and I can’t wait to see how Maika’s story continues to develop.

This was a great start to a graphic novel series. The art is beautiful and the story is so complex. Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend this to people who don’t read a lot of graphic novels (like me) because there is so much going on, it can get quite confusing. I’d also only recommend reading this physically because, again, every panel has so much importance and nuance to the overall story, even if it doesn’t include any text. With that being said, after reading a quick summary of everything I’d just read, I did truly enjoy my experience with this story. The world Liu has created is entirely original and completely immersive. The art style is gorgeous. There is also so much potential for this to become an expansive world. I think if readers can get past the initial confusion, this will be perfect for any fantasy graphic novel fans that are okay with darker themes. The author truly doesn’t hesitate to display the dark aspects of human nature, which only adds to how realistic this story feels despite it’s fantastical setting.
