What a fantastic historical fiction novel for young readers. The War Below takes readers to a part of the world during World War II that shows no relief or escape even after the war ends. 

Young Luka, like many children who survived the brutalities of the Soviets and Nazis, has to survive on his own and learn to fight for his country while he is still just 13. Along the way, he meets others who help him and whom he helps...only to have to survive the end of the war as well. 

I know quite a few young readers who like realistic fiction best and who would love this read. A word of caution: it is very violent. Some of the violence can be disturbing for younger readers.

I LOVED THIS BOOK. The ending was the perfect ending and I wanted that to happen (if you read the book you know what I'm talking about) and it did. I'm so happy. These books are the best and I love this author. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
