I missed him so much, but also I felt like I was missing myself too. Thats the thing with grief. The way it kind of sinks you into death as well. I mean, you are still biologically functioning obviously. You are out there breathing and seeing and talking but you aren’t properly alive anymore.

I don’t know what it is about Matt Haig books but they always leave me thinking about life with a slightly different perspective and this one was no different and after a week of feeling under the weather I needed something to pick up next and this cover drew me in and I just absorbed it all in a weekend which was a lovely way to spend the weekend lost in the book.

Grace Winters, A Seventy-Year-old retired Math’s teacher is unexpectedly granted a house in Ibiza, Spain by a colleague she has not seen or spoken to in years. But Grace has nothing keeping her in England, her husband is dead, her son died many years ago; but she still grieves his loss every day. For Grace to go to Ibiza she will need to face her past as she searches for explanations regarding her friend's death.

As soon as Grace arrives on Ibiza, she discovers that her friend Christina was a highly unusual person who is telling fortunes to people in the market. The more that Grace digs around her friend death the more peculiar things seem. Grace meets a close friend of Christina who takes her for a dive and from there Grace's life and mind are transformed, as she discovers that she can now perceive so much more around her.

I found this novel to be incredibly endearing, thought-provoking, poetic with a hint of magical realism. You will undoubtedly find this book to be moving if you have already experienced Haig’s other works.

Tried too hard to be meaningful, yet made me feel like I’d read this story before.

I love Matt Haig's other books but I did not enjoy this one. He was trying so hard to be profound but it came off as tedious and preachy.
