listened to this audiobook with baylie <3 definitely my least favorite wolitzer so far but it’s not easy to live up to the absolute masterpieces that are the female persuasion and sleepwalking - i was very excited at this premise and now i need to look further into lysistrata because i’m appalled that i haven’t heard of it until now

There's a little bit of a magical gimmick here, but an enjoyable one. Or maybe it was a metaphor? In any event, an engrossing, funny, sometimes uncomfortable picture of love, marriage, extramarital hijinks, the pain of being fat...you name it. I'm liking Wolitzer quite a bit.

I was put off by this book, almost from the beginning. The general idea, that a town full of women are put off of sex by a mysterious spell running through the town, was uninteresting to me. They all quit, not really knowing why, but most frustratingly, not asking why. Did no one care? Did they all take it as the natural course of things? It made no sense. 

I ended up reading the whole thing, liking it more in some areas, and less in others, and then finally just buckling in and finishing it. The conclusion was not particularly satisfactory. 

Pretty well written, but not a great read.

I picked this up on the discount shelf, and now I see why. The book sounded promising, but the execution was poor. Very slow and hard to relate to – I ended up skimming the last half of the book and I don’t feel like I missed out on any of the story. I hope The Interestings is more interesting than this one!

This is the fourth Wolitzer book I've read in pretty rapid succession. I liked it. It was sort of a neat idea, and it's an easy read. Wolitzer's humor and her ability to observe and describe things very closely are in evidence here. I haven't read a bad Wolitzer book yet, though The Interestings is far and away my favorite of the four I've read.
