How did a free novella have me grinning like an idiot?

Not gonna lie, this is a short one and I definitely would have liked more because I had so much story I wanted to read on this one but it was good and had me questioning why I've not read more from Megan Frampton.

Katherine was so lovely, she's a lady who is suffering hard times and had had to become a ladies companion to earn a living. And she has quite a challenge keeping Lady Euphemia under control, especially when she has it in her head that she is going to get Henry Dawkins, an old family friend, fall in love with her. When Katherine and Henry met I just knew they would be lovely together, and later when they are alone together they were so adorably cute and awkward with one another and I was in love. I love a sweet awkward couple and they were definitely that. I mean, there was heat between them, you just knew they had chemistry, but those sweet slightly awkward moments were my favourite.

Considering this was a novella you would think the only characters you would have any kind of connection with would be the two MCs but, honestly, Lady Euphemia, Effie, was just adorable. I would have loved a full-length version so she could have had a little more page time. She should have come across self-important and full of herself. She was on a quest to make a man fall in love with her simply because he had the gall to reject her when she was 15 but not once did I dislike her. She was full of herself but that was because she is confident in her looks and knows she is pretty. She was never selfish, though. She knew Katherine had no money and didn't even bat an eyelid at buying her a beautiful new dress to wear to the theatre. And even when Katherine looked beautiful in that dress it was never a question she would have it because Katherine and Effie could both be stunning and not detract from the other. That kind of female support was lovely to see and would have been even better if we had more time to explore it.

My issue, as always, is there was more story to tell than we got to see here. It was a really enjoyable little read but I would have liked more.
