The Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center (NPWRC) of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) presents the full text of the March 7, 2001 article entitled "Duck Nest Success on Conservation Reserve Program Land in the Prairie Pothole Region," written by H.A. Kantrud. Habitat fragmentation from intensified farming has concentrated nesting waterfowl and their predators in the remaining, relatively small habitats of the prairie region in the United States. The Conservation Reserve Program can help disperse these concentrations of nesting waterfowl and reduce losses to predators.
