I never really knew much about Mike Tyson, but as with other big American celebs like Michal Jackson, Michael Jordan, Mike Tyson was everywhere in the media at that time. I wasn't a fan of Michael Jackson and neither did I watch basketball or boxing, but I knew of the icons who were everywhere and so they became part of my upbringing when reflecting on the past and especially the '90s. 
Besides being an outstanding boxer with many quick KO's I mainly recollect bad stories about Mike Tyson. When coming across this book I hoped to get a better understanding of him and glimpses into the causes of his behavior and this book helped with just that. Now understanding the causes does not excuse the behavior, but it does explain a lot and should be used as a lesson for future generations. what makes a man do what he does? Is it the free choice or is it past experiences (good and bad) shaping us? The arguments presented in this book tend to go with the latter and it seems appropriate even though you would think that a person would know better when making decisions. This is a book about the rise and fall of a great athlete and man. It goes to show that fame and fortune can be a mother of all problems without love, guidance, and a basic level of maturity as well as social skills and empathy. The book gave me a better understanding of the boxer and man Mike Tyson, but it was tough to read as the bragging of sexual conquests, drugs, and massive overconsumption as wells bad decisions upon another becomes too much throughout the book.

He obviously led a wild life and tells an interesting story, but I found I never knew what timeframe I was in by the midpoint of the book. 

I squeezed out some extra enjoyment by watching the fights on YouTube after he described what was going through his head, and I recommend doing the same (I do this with most biographies when I can).
