           King has a good sense of humor. There is so much commentary about round conclusion of fiction and I believe Misery itself has a fairly round resolution. Of course there is the trauma Paul went through and probably would never shake off but so much of the threads have cleaner conclusions than I'd have expected.

Não li muitos livros do King em minha vida, mas os poucos que li se tornaram todos favoritos. Misery tem que ser um dos melhores livros de toda minha vida para ser sincera. Tenho muita dificuldade, normalmente, de me ver presa em um livro de thriller. Na maioria das vezes não me importo com o personagem ou a situação o suficiente para o leitura se tornar fluida, por isso não leio tanto esse gênero. Misery, de uma forma que não sei explicar, me fez cativar pelo personagem principal e mais que isso, me deu tanto medo da Annie que não conseguia largar. Queria a todo tempo saber o que ela iria fazer em seguida. Sem contar a escrita do King, que em todos os livros eu acho um pouco poética, mas nesse ela chegou em outro nível na minha opinião. Deve-se aplaudir de pé um autor que consegue colocar metáforas e fluxos de pensamento abstrato que sejam realmente interessantes e façam sentido com a obra, não apenas estão ali para "elevar" o patamar de leitura. As reflexões de Paul me deixavam tão instigada quanto as cenas de ação, o que me surpreendeu muito. Além disso, pela primeira vez (a menos que eu me lembre), me vi realmente apreensiva lendo um livro. As cenas em que Annie saía de casa e Paul se esgueirava para fora do quarto eram de dar nos nervos, o medo de Annie aparecer a qualquer momento, medo que ela faria com ele...
Finalmente me deparei com um final do King que considero perfeito. Acho que não mudaria nenhum detalhe. Eu gosto principalmente de como ele só revelou no final que Annie estava morta, de forma que durante o ultimo capitulo estamos a todo tempo esperando acontecer alguma merda e ela aparecer novamente.
Sensacional. Mais uma vez King está me provando que mereço dedicar muito mais tempo a ler sua obra do que já dediquei. Pena que os livros são sempre tão caros hahha :( por isso até que demorei tanto pra ler Misery, estava sempre tão caro...
Bom, se eu pudesse mudar uma coisa seria o vocabulário que ele usa para uma determinada cena no final que me deixou bem desconfortável. Ao mesmo tempo entendo que foi um livro escrito há bastante tempo atrás e que na época não havia muito diálogo sobre o quanto fazer a alusões a certas coisas pode ser ofensivo.
Enfim, vida longa ao Rei :)

It's Stephen King so it is obviously fantastic! There was so much actual fear in me and I was so emotionally connected to Paul - you definitely root for him. The character of Annie is so well thought of and fleshed out it's almost as if she's in the room with you. Not one to read if you're on your own and it'sdark!

Grotesque. Absolutely inhumane. What an INSANE book, holy shit. Deadass had me gagging, groaning, had to put it down so many times to breathe thru the nausea. Loved it.

this is the first stephen king book i’ve ever read and honestly it was pretty good ! it took me some time to finish but i liked the story development and was also pretty curious about how it’s going to end & honestly i was quite satisfied with the ending

My first experience reading a Stephen King novel — and my first time reading a “horror / thriller”!!! 

The first half felt slow for me, but it soon picked up and I could not put this book down. Annie Wilkes might just be one of the best written characters I’ve ever come across. I was left gasping, cheering and “oh my god-ing” after every chapter. What a ride!!

Quando me desgracei na primeira visita que fiz à Feira do Livro de Lisboa, comprei este livro. E quando me disseram que o livro era muito bom fiquei com vontade de pegar nele rapidamente. Meteram-se pelo meio os Caçadores de Cabeças e a A filha do Papa mas este estava de prevenção e, por isso, a semana passada peguei nele.
Confesso que foi o primeiro livro que li de Stephen King e nem sequer sabia que tinham feito um filme. Certo, eu sou distraída, não vale a pena baterem-me por causa disso.
Paul Sheldon é um escritor consagrado cujos romances tem, como personagem principal, Misery que ele decide matar no último livro que edita. E mata-a porque a odeia, porque sente que esses romances não são tão bons quanto poderiam ser e que Misery é uma personagem fraca. Só que Annie Wilkes, fã incondicional da série Misery (tanto que tem uma porca com esse nome) não o aceita.
Paul, quando acaba de escrever o seu novo livro (sem Misery), resolve festejar e acaba por ter um acidente de carro. Quando acorda do coma, toma consciência que está em casa de Annie, uma enfermeira reformada que o mantêm preso e que vai tratando dele, ao mesmo tempo que lhe exige que escreva um novo livro com Misery, sendo necessário que Misery seja ressuscitada de forma credível, porque Annie, apesar de louca, não aceita qualquer solução.
Paul é então obrigado a escrever para sobreviver à loucura de Annie, sempre sem saber o que o espera no dia seguinte ou mesmo no minuto a seguir, uma vez que, qualquer contrariedade pode alterar o estado de espirito de Annie. E é às ordens de Annie que Paul escreve aquele que será o melhor (no entender dele) livro da série Misery. Resta saber se Paul sobreviverá para o poder editar e em que condições estará nessa altura.
Sendo que este livro deu aso a um filme de terror, eu vou confessar que nem o achei tão de terror assim, excepto numa parte que envolve um machado e uma perna (e como hoje é dia de confessionário, pelos vistos, confesso ainda que esta parte tive de saltar ou ia direitinha ter com a minha amiga sanita para vomitar). Suspense sim, muito, até porque Sheldon passa, literalmente, as passinhas do Algarve, com Annie.
Não direi que é o melhor livro de sempre, mas direi que é um excelente livro de estreia para quem, como eu, não conhecia Stephen King. Não foram poucas as vezes em que, ao almoço, me distrai com o livro e cheguei mais tarde ao trabalho. E ontem, quando estava na recta final, optei por sair mais tarde para ir para a praia para não ter de interromper a leitura.
Se não o leram ainda, não percam mais tempo. Não sabem o que estarão a perder se não o lerem.

I’ve been a Stephen King addict for years, but no book I’ve ever read tops this one. This thriller is a writer’s nightmare and shows how a crazy reader can become emotionally involved with a character. Would recommend this for Stephen King or gore/horror fans; but it might be too much otherwise. Amazing fuckin book

I am as relieved as Paul Sheldon, as I type this. Finally, after what seems like years and years of torture and abuse, even though it was mere months, Paul was finally free. Like Paul used to fall through the hole in the paper while writing, I, too fell through the hole in the book and watched in horror as Annie Wilkes, Paul’s “number one fan”(and don’t you ever forget it) forced Paul to do her bidding, and punished him when he resisted. 

It’s made clear in the book at the beginning that Annie suffers from a mental illness, which is never explicitly named. However, her personality, distinct from her mental illness, is obnoxious. She would blame Paul for her actions, instead of owning up, and when she did, which was rare, would do so reluctantly, and always rationalise her actions. She also had extreme notions of good and bad, was extremely cunning and lied easily and convincingly. 

The story moves at a very slow pace, and although it was really interesting to get a peek at a writer’s mind, nonetheless fictional, I found myself becoming impatient. The last 100 pages or so, made up for it.
