Alright I suppose. Not as good as her other stuff; felt kinda disjointed. The pace was good in the first third, then it seemed to choke and splutter - not intentionally either from what I could gather. The device used to switch between first person narrators, for me, didn't work. It felt clunky and stopped me from feeling immersed in the story. This is a problem with someone like Hayder, because the sheer insanity of her plots require good, tight, immersive writing in order for the reader's continued suspension of disbelief, to be possible. A good writer will draw the reader in and make them go along with anything; as long as their characters are well formed, the prose is tight and everything within the story conforms to the rules implicit in the writer's created world.

This book just didn't manage to do that. There is no way Joe & Lexie would ever be together. She had no redeeming qualities whatsoever. The entire plot and premise were completely bat-shit-crazy, which is cool, but it wasn't made believable, the way it is in Hayder's other books. It also felt like she had tried to shoehorn too much stuff into a single book. It lulled a fair bit about two-thirds of the way through, limped to a decent twist, then ended abruptly and somewhat unsatisfactorily.

All in all, there was enough there to hold my attention throughout what was essentially, a bit of a romp of a Sunday afternoon read. Junk food for the mind, essentially.
