this is the hardest book i’ve ever had to write a review for because it was simply exceptional. i was so worried at first with the time jumps and the worry that she would change herself for him but i had no reason for it because this was amazing. 

it had the potential to absolutely kill me at the end but it didn’t (it kinda did just in a different way) and i think i would’ve been happy with either ending i’d imagined. 

i feel like i have to buy a copy of this book (i read it digitally) and annotate it wildly in a second read. 

i’m not going to say much else but i really recommend this book. it’s the first historical romance i’ve read and i was worried i’d hate it but i immediately adapted to the different style and fell in love with it. 

basically i’m rating this a 4.9/5… that .1 off because oml a super tragic ending would’ve been so painfully incredible.


EDIT: after reading other reviews i want to point out some things. 
-a common criticism is of lily. i love her and i love how much she stands her ground. there was exaggeration regarding her actions i believe however i don’t think this takes away so much as it reinforces the idea of her strong will. 
-ridiculous situations. this feels like a silly one to have to talk about. it’s a novel. novels often have situations which are ridiculous and wouldn’t actually happen to normal people. i like the sweetness and uniqueness of the situations but i understand not enjoying these. 

maybe i’ll lower this rating after reading more historical romances, i’m not sure. i feel this one will always hold a place in my heart as my first though.
