I love reading memoirs written by people who have lived very long and full lives. Mr. Van Dyke has never had a negative thing to say about anyone he’s ever met. He is hard working, driven, compassionate and humble. I love that he has always known exactly what kind of role model he wanted to be and stuck with it. I also found it incredibly interesting to see that he met several presidents and the Queen of England. His tales of what it was like when JFK was assassinated and the speech he gave at a rally with Martin Luther King Jr. were wild to read about. His experiences with kicking bad habits like smoking and drinking during a time when everyone had the same bad habits was inspiring. This is book was a joy to read. Heartbreaks and all.

The timeline/topic jumps could get a bit confusing at times, but the book as a whole was charming, funny, and delightful, and I expected nothing less. Dick Van Dyke will forever be one of my favorites.
