Wow. Mind = blown. One of the best books I've read in a long time.

What first drew me to this book was the storyline. I'm a total sucker for any murder mystery type of books, and this one seemed to have all of the things that were in my wheelhouse. 

I do like Ellison's writing style. I think she created some interesting characters - Megan being one of them, and was probably my favorite character in the book - and had a very interesting plot line, but something just wasn't there for me. I love a story with an unreliable narrator, and I usually like stories that have some not so likable characters, but almost every character in this book was unlikable which made it a little hard to get into. I didn't find myself invested in the characters, I continued to read because I wanted to know what had really happen to Josh.

SPOILERS START HERE:

The timeline kept throwing me off. I do enjoy when we get backstory for a character, but these flashbacks seemed a little unimportant for the most part. Like with Josh finding out that his birth father is actually alive. Nothing else came from that storyline, so I'm not really sure why we needed to know about it? To make us realize how untrustworthy Daisy is? Already knew that. What I would've been more interested in would be the reason for Daisy's hatred of Aubrey's parents, which lead to her hatred of Aubrey.

Something else that really bothered me was the police not bothering to investigate further into Josh's past, his current job, his family, his friends, etc. when Aubrey was proven innocent. Had they actually done their job, then maybe this would've been solved much quicker. Aubrey's drug use was another thing that seemed strange to me. It was referenced a few times, and almost lead us to believe that it would be a bigger part of the story than it actually was, but nothing really happened with that. 

The entire storyline with Chase was too convenient and predictable for the most part. And then after everything that happened, he and Aubrey ended up getting married? That seemed strange.

The ending was also very ominous, nothing really seemed to get resolved, and that last sentence made it seem like Aubrey was getting ready to run again. 

While I do like Ellison's style, and think that she created quite an interesting story, it just fell a little flat for me.

Well I am not even sure how I want to rate this book. It was more of a sad written soap opera. I am apposed to books being compared to Gone Girl but I admit I am a sucker for them. I was intrigued in the beginning which is why when at 2 am I started to read it, I felt compelled to finish it at 6 am. 
I won't lie I was more concerned for Winston the dog the entire book than any other character. Winston was definitely my favorite character and it was a dog. 
Too many twists that seemed impossible and unrealistic. Nothing felt closed at the end. I didn't see how one point ended without another. Judge for yourselves. This book was def not for me.
