Eve and Roark spark and spar. Eve is tender and tough. There is hot sex and there are crimes solved. Cops are killed and religion is mixed in. Trips are made in flying cars and in a virtual world. The writing is solid.

I hate pissing contests. This book has everybody grabbing a bucket. Whether it was Eve, Roarke, Cops, Bad Guys, randoms, anyone- they had a bone to pick and an axe to grind. 

I also hate the "you're mine so I'm going to sleep with you now to claim you" trope. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and it felt really off for the characters, considering some of the background. Honestly almost quit at that point. 

It's also harder to feel the drama of a climax when you know the series has another 40+ books in it. Like, okay maybe side characters will be affected, but chances are low that Eve, at the least, will die. Roarke is also likely safe, but who knows.

This might be my pivot point. I'm now 11 books into a series, and have not really loved the last two installments for tropes Robb is using. Do I continue in the hopes that I like the next books more, or am I just reading more books I might not like in an effort to finish a 50+ book series, which with each book read will make me more committed to finishing it? Booknerd problems, am I right?
