so much here about museum culture/the process of acquisition and display.

I've heard her disdainfully call this part of the ship a museum, a prison, a brothel, and a nursery.

corporate life on a spaceship flows into the uncanny & chaotic relationship of human(oid) life all together, presented to the reader in a crisp and refreshing manner. difficult to put down, incredible one-liners and the differentiation between the interviewees, at first difficult, becomes much easier than you'd think. i loved this book and all it stands for

Incredible prose about what it is to be human and how we connect with objects. Felt like a rumination on museums at its core. I didn’t find it depressing or nihilistic. Absolutely means something different to everyone.

I understand what this was going for and felt myself compelled, but felt like the actual plot happenings didn’t punch me in the gut / faded into the background - the whole time I felt like I was reading the intro to the book and the dramatic parts of the plot got lost.

Great language, hell of a somber tone, my mood dropped every time I read some (in a good way). The statements being jumbled was not cute and not appreciated. An intelligent sci-fi story told like office clips (not in a good way). I see its merit but I don’t feel like singing it praises.

it feel like someone had caressed my chest and revealed to me a hollowness i hadn’t even known was there, attempted to fill it and cried with me when we realized it wasn’t possibly. that isn’t meant to be pitiful, i suppose it’s meant to be loving. i can’t describe it, that tenderness. reading felt almost daunting—not because it was tedious or uninteresting, but because i was afraid of reaching the conclusion. like a bittersweet parting, except it was involuntary: i refused to say goodbye, i refused to let go, i refused to do anything but fight against the inevitability as i tried to make sense of things that could or couldn’t be made sense of. then, there was nothing left for me but acceptance, and the knowledge that a part of it has been irrevocably engrained within me.
