this was a short novella that served as a prequel to “half of a soul”. the first book was from a woman’s perspective during the regency times so it focused more on women’s issues like marriage, inheritance, status, etc. but this one focused more on the war against napoleon through the male characters’ perspectives. it was interesting and short, but nothing special.

I really liked Albert and Elias's dynamic in the first place so it is a shame that this was not included within the original text. This is the kind of background that would have helped flesh out the main body of the work.
