I remember having no idea what this was about, having it explained to me a bit, and then feeling like it was a bit too on the nose. Clearly, I had missed the point...if there even was/is one in this aesthetic/decadent work? Nonetheless, Aubrey Beardsley's illustrations in the version I purchased were striking to look at.

well that was... weird. i feel like oscar wilde was really high.

i read this play in three languages: french, english and spanish and in any of those languages i understood the mean or purpose of this... i was asking myself the entire time "what's the fucking purpose of this? why's salomé acting this way? is she really kissing a dead man's head? WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?"

and i know i will probably fail my exam of this play, JAKJSHKJHDF wish me luck!

Beautifully written and truly a work of art, but between the near-incest pedophilia (Salome’s stepfather) and the murders + suicide, it becomes one of the darkest tragedies in my literary journey. Wilde’s sharp irony makes it lighter at times, however, which I am grateful for.

Despite not knowing much of biblical stories, I found myself rather enthralled with this play.

The dialogue has some of Oscar’s wit but what mostly captured me was the atmosphere and just how bizarre it was.

I can’t really speak on if Wilde adapted the story well, but it was most entertaining chuckling at how ludicrous the characters were.
