Well for a second time since 2009 or so.. I've finished it again. 

Not changing my mind about it. I still loved it the same way if not more I loved it the first time around.

Highly recommend to everyone who likes a good post-apocalyptic story. A real page-turner.

Gus is a sweet-tooth. Loves candy. He's also a hybrid. He's the last one of them?! Maybe. Maybe one of the last few. He lives with his father in the woods, hidden from any survivors who hunt hybrids.. until one day everything goes to shit and it's all about survival from that point on.

Great artwork. Great story. I hope this continues on the volume 2.

This is a post-apocalyptic Southern gothic in the tradition of The Road and The Stand. It's about a human/animal hybrid boy, named Gus (aka Sweet Tooth)trying to survive in the aftermath of the virus known as the Affliction. After the death of his father, Gus teams up with a mysterious man named Jeppered in order to reach "The Preserve", a fabled safe-haven for hybrid children. But, the world beyond the woods Gus lives in is a treacherous place and Jepperd has alternative motives....

This is a remarkable and devastating story.

Wow... This series is amazing, I am not the biggest fan of post-apocalyptic worlds but this is just too good. When I first opened the comic I thought I would hate it because the art is so old, however, when I started reading I couldn't let it go. An amazing start.

I have heard many good things about this graphic novel but I was dissapointed a bit. I didn't really get much out of this volume. I mean, the world and characters are interesting but I feel like we haven't learned enough yet in this volume to compell me to keep reading. I wasn't the biggest fan of the art style either which also didn't help it's case either. Yeah, this wasn't for me and I'm kind of dissapointed because I was ready to love this.

This is my second Jeff Lemire book, and I'm increasingly impressed.

Sweet Tooth is a post-apocalyptic story focused on a single character after a plague has wiped out civilization. Gus, a/k/a Sweet Tooth, is a mutant boy, a kind of animal-human hybrid - i.e., he has some deer characteristics, including antlers. 

The story so far (this is just volume 1) begins with Gus in his family home, a shack in the "deep woods", where he lives with his Bible-obsessed father. They exist in isolation, terrified of an outside world marked by disease, catastrophe, and evil. Naturally the father dies and Gus must enter that zone of depravity.

Gus narrates the tale, constricting our point of view to his ill-informed perspective. This lets Lemire dribble in rare bits of exposition, focusing instead on Sweet Tooth's encounters with with people, places, and his dreams.

The art is fascinating, built on heavily drawn lines and muted colors. It makes for a somber, forceful, and unsettled tone, wholly appropriate to the story.

Strongly recommended.
