“I’m not interested,” I said, putting the eight ball cleanly into the side pocket. “I don’t like betting on other human beings. She’s not an object.”

         Doug shook his head at me. “At least try to have fun.”

         “Oh yeah? When’s the last time you hooked up with someone?” Doug asked. “It’s been what? Four months since Megan?”

         “I’m not looking to hook up. Thanks though.” 

         He shrugged, pulling out his keys. “A hundred bucks.”

         “And what about you? You’re not in on this bet?”

         He shook his head. “That’s not my thing.”

         “No? Well, what if I left with you? Would you win the money?”

         He wrinkled his forehead at me. “I don’t follow.”

         “I think I’m going to leave anyway. You could walk out with me. Win the bet.”

         He smiled. “You’d do that?”

         He glanced over at the men across the room.

         Carhartt Jacket was holding a guitar.

         Daniel’s eyes came back to mine, and a smile played at the corners of his lips. “If we do it, we split the money.”

         I turned to Liz. “Liz, on a scale from one to serial killer, how dangerous is this man? Am I safe to walk out into a dark parking lot with him?”

         She smiled. “Daniel is the only guy I’d leave this bar with.”

         “I don’t know how I feel about that,” he said. “You’re my cousin.”

         She laughed. “He’s harmless.”

         “And he’ll keep up his end of the bargain and pay me?” I asked.

         She dried a tumbler with a rag. “Even if those idiots don’t keep up their end of the bargain and pay him, he’ll pay you. It’s the kind of person he is.”

“I’m going to pretend that you just said something really funny and I’m going to laugh. Then we can wrap this up.”

         He put a hand to his chin. “What kind of laugh?”

         “Yeah. In theory whatever I’m saying to you has to be good enough to make you leave with me after only knowing me for five minutes. It’s going to have to look pretty convincing. I’m thinking Julia Roberts?”

         This actually did make me laugh, which made him laugh—and it was adorable. His warm golden-green eyes creased at the corners and it lit his whole face.

         God, he had a nice smile. Really nice. Something about it darted me right in the heart, took a little of my breath away.

okay, I've been so busy in school that I only finished this book till now and also have a reading slump. i love going back to read and chose this book. i love Daniel's assurance, his animals, his carvings, foods that he cooks, and almost everything about him ✨ i also admire Alexis' character development throughout the story and how her relationship to Wakan and Daniel have changed her, even how she stood out for herself. i hope it's true that even in real life, two people can be connected and the universe makes a way for the both of you to be together. one more thing, i love the penguin love stones! 🪨

I really want to punch Alexis's father because he's a the real monster in her life. No wonder why Alexis always thinking that she deserve what she's got. NO GIRL, YOU AND EVERYONE IN THIS WORLD DESERVE SOOO MUCH BETTER. SO, LOVE YOURSELF BECAUSE YOU ARE SPECIAL JUST AS WHO YOU ARE.

I always enjoy reading books that have medical themes, because I feel like I can see my daily life there. And this book is one of the books that I like because the FMC is an ER physician.

The story is incredibly adorable, starting with a chance meeting between Alexis and Daniel, leading them into a ... how should I put it? A complicated relationship? But, even so, their affection seems very deep, and its's sooooo adorable. AND I LOVE DANIEL GRANT. HE IS SUCH A GREEN FOREST GUY FOR REAL.

for me, it was an easy read. just the correct pacing, not too fast and not too slow. the banter, the teasing, it was just nice. love may come off quick and impossible, yet again Alexis and Daniel proved nothing is impossible.

don’t get me wrong i LOVE abby jiminez’s writing and the way she always incorporates some type of mental health into her characters. but this was just, meh. 

i’m not a debbie downer so i’ll start with the good, i loved the mental health portrayal, and daniel was such a sweet boy and i was so proud of alexis in the last five chapters. and bri, don’t even get me started i love that woman with my whole soul (perks of reading yours truly first i guess). 

okay, now here’s where i may not be so… nice. first off cecil can kneel over and die and i would not bat an eye. he was so conceded and egotistical and i wanted to reach into the book and claw his eyes out. god i hate that mean with every fibre of my being its not even funny at this point. 

AND THE MAGIC??? literally don’t make me laugh. there is no way you’d make me believe a small town made lightening magically appear or flowers bloom as soon as someone walks into the vicinity. this is a romance book not fantasy. 

alexis stance on “he doesn’t fit into my world im rich he’s not blah blah” like i get it to an extent, but when it’s said in every five chapters it just makes me groan. 

also daniel baby STAND UP. the fact he was so compliant with just letting ali use him like you’re twenty-eight not two. 

but yeah, i liked the characters even though they pissed me off more times then they made me laugh. i did cry once but i was just so overwhelmed with emotions when daniel was talking about alexis.

I really enjoy this one!  I couldn’t wait to get to the happy ending which you knew was coming -  a beautiful story. I enjoyed the comedy the drama and the love.

Love love loved this book! I just love how realistic Abby Jimenez books are. Seeing Alexis’s mental health involved with why she was restricting herself to being happy with Daniel and her being able to use her tips from therapy to help others along the way. Plus Daniel is honestly THE dream guy, and loved how patient he was with her. I just loved that they both respected and didn’t make fun of each others upbringings but instead were patient and willing to learn from each other.

 i enjoyed this so much u can never go wrong w found family & small town T___T one of the v rare stories where i didnt really mind the age gap & rich/poor trope! it also touched very important topics such as abuse, intergenerational trauma & healthcare inaccessibility. it was written delicately but still manages to leave an impact. i love the touches of magic in wakan & the attention to detail. im so proud of alexis for finally being able to choose herself & get out of that cycle 🥹 the last chapter & the epilogue brought so much joy to my heart <3 i hope daniel & alexis are always happy 🫂

I also was scared to see what the reverse age gap would be like and if that would be a big play into the plot. But it was so refreshing that it wasn’t. It was noticed but not made to be a big deal that there was so much more to the story than that. Honestly though screw her parents, especially her father, like the rage that man made me feel. Yeah this book made you feel a lot of different feelings and I’m afraid this is just the start to what I think Abby Jimenez can do to me.
