This is the most enjoyable entry in the Aubrey series thus far. Lucky Jack doesn't look so lucky as he heads south on a mission to transport convicts to Australia, pick up Captain Bligh and take as many Dutch ships as he can along the way. I've been reading this in concert with Richard Zacks' The Pirate Hunter - about the misadventures of Cap'n Kidd - and The Worst Journey in the World, Apsley Cherry-Gerrard's account of Scott's ill-fated Antarctic mission. I recommend the combination.
