all of the quasi-feminist pearl-clutching about the extreme sexual violence in this text is painfully, gratingly myopic. that being said, its contents are trite and predictable and its implicit attitudes are way too dated and bourgeois for the dynamics at play to be engaging or moving in any real way. fine as an introductory deconstruction/extrapolation of the phallogocentric violence inherent in heterosexuality. sex = objectification = death, blah blah blah. it's just not particularly hot and not particularly interesting
