Interesting but... not that interesting. It took me more than a week to finish and I found myself listening just because of obligation. Pretty easy read and asides the random philosophical ponderings of the characters, this was okay.

So I think this one was my favorite out of all the series. I laughed so much. Dan was hilarious, I swear it was just amazing. Their story was so cute and loved how for something so dumb they weren’t together but it all lead them to where they had to go through. Also, who doesn't love a trope of convenience? 

10000% recommend i am so sad this was the end of the series😭😭😭

Romantic comedies are my types of books and the idea of getting married, because it's necessary has been done many times. This isn't an issue when it comes to Marriage of Inconvenience though. I loved the characters from the start and this book had me smiling often while reading. My only issue is that it seemed to take just a little bit to start going. This is pretty long for a romance, so I think that's what it is. I liked that it's longer and even though it took a bit longer before something really happened, it was nice to get more information about the characters. This made it a lot easier to connect to them. I have to say I would've loved more chapters from Dan's POV. Kat's group of friends are the sweetest people even if they are all a bit quirky. During the whole book I was really hoping that everything would turn out okay for Kat. Her cousin is awful and her family history wasn't the greatest. I can't imagine what that does with a child. I mean, someone can only hear that there's something wrong with them before they start believing it. Penny Reid has a magic way with words and she had me loving her characters from the start. Humor, romance and family were all in perfect balance. I loved that the epilogue was so far in the future. Seeing the characters still fit together so many years later left me with a smile on my face. This was my first Penny Reid book. I think I need to change that very soon!

I know I’m not alone in this, but I have been waiting for Dan and Kat’s story FOR.EV.ER. Forever. So long, in fact, that I can’t even remember which book I was reading when I started shipping them HARD. Was it the first book in the series? Quite possibly. Regardless, it’s been ages and I just kept hoping I wouldn’t be disappointed when one of the characters wound up with someone else. It was touch and go a couple times, but thankfully my Dan and Kat dreams came true in Marriage of Inconvenience. The fact their story started with a fake marriage? Even freaking better. That trope is like Kim catnip.

I’ve crushed on Dan the Security Man and Kat for so long without really knowing all that much about either of them. You can probably guess just how excited I was to finally get to dig in deep and learn more about each of them. And that’s before we even got to the “good parts” of the relationship. I love both of these characters so much more after getting to spend some time inside each of their heads. There’s so much depth to both of them. I enjoyed peeling back the layers and learning more. They’re both amazing, to be honest, and so perfectly paired when you really get down to it.

I was intrigued by Kat’s inheritance storyline, but at the same time it made me very angry. I don’t like it when characters I love are manipulated or made to feel like there’s something wrong with them. It made me anxious to see how it would all wrap up, how Kat (with Dan’s help, more than likely) would be able to fix things. Of course, as all of this is unfolding, so is the relationship between Kat and Dan. And holy feels. First, the sexual tension is INTENSE and I couldn’t wait for the bubble to burst. They were so obviously into each other, which caused a bit of uncertainty since this wasn’t supposed to be a “real” marriage. Anyone who’s been paying attention knew better though. Kat and Dan were totally meant for each other.

Marriage of Inconvenience is Penny Reid at her best. (I mean, not that I haven’t loved everything she’s written so far, but still.) It was smart, funny and sexy, but delivered the feels too. I love the banter, friendships and relationships. Penny’s novels stand out to me because I find that I always learn a few things along the way. Her chapter intros aren’t wasted and more often than not, I find myself going “Huh. I didn’t know that.” I find it a nice added bonus to an already wonderfully written book.

As much as I loved this book — and believe me I did — it also made me kinda sad. I’ve been falling for the Knitting in the City characters for so long, across so many books. I celebrated their triumphs and cried with them during the tough times. I can’t believe it’s over now. I’ll certainly miss each and every one of them, their quirks and friendships and relationships. I own most of the audiobooks already, but I plan on adding the rest to my library so I can go back for a reread anytime I’m in the mood to spend time with this group again. The series wrapped up so perfectly here, so I think fans will be incredibly happy. I know I was, as I smiled through my tears. That epilogue, y'all. All the heart eyes.

Kat and Dan’s story has seemed like it has been a long time coming, but trust me, Penny Reid will not disappoint you! I binge read and caught up on all the KitC books I hadn’t read yet to prepare myself for Marriage of Inconvenience, which was SUCH a fun experience. It’s not necessary to read the entire series before starting Marriage of Inconvenience because I know, they are such big books, but I do recommend them, not only because they are all fantastic reads, but also for the lead-up to Kat and Dan’s romance.

Marriage of Inconvenience takes on the classic marriage of convenience trope, but in Penny Reid fashion, she delivers the trope in her own unique, intelligent, complex way. Kat has always been a bit of a mystery to not only readers, but also her group of knitting friends. We know that she’s richer than God, and has got a crush on Dan O’Malley since they first met. Both finally come into play when Kat needs a man to help save her family’s legacy, and who better than Dan the Security Man?

“I want it all, Kit-Kat. I want all of you.”
I nodded, sniffing. “I want all of you, too.”
He placed a gentle kiss over my mouth, and then brushed his lips over the tears on my cheeks before resting his forehead against mine and closing his eyes.
“And I want it to last.” It was a rough whisper.
The words sounded like a wish.

Despite it being fake, there are real, complicated feelings on both sides of this marriage. Kat and Dan both want this to work in the long run, but they’re terrified that the feelings they have for each other aren’t strong enough to last. I ADORED these two characters – they’re both clueless about love, but I couldn’t help but love them anyway. Kat is fierce and lovable – she’s had to be tough to survive in the ruthless world she grew up in. Dan is an absolute sweetheart with a heart of gold and mouth of unending curses. He is protective, kind, and devoted to making Kat happy and safe. And anyway, how can you not love a man who names his dog Bark Wahlberg? In between the lovey dovey stuff (where it’s OBVIOUS they’re meant for each other), there is some action and suspense that makes you unable to put this read down.

I don’t want to delve too much into the plot, because it’s best just to experience the wonder that is the knitting group and their men together. Penny Reid has created a wonderful, unforgettable cast of characters I could read about forever. I highly recommend Marriage of Inconvenience (and the rest of the series, for those who haven’t started) for fans of slow burn romances, with a little kick to them. And for those of you who’ve been patiently waiting for Kat and Dan, you don’t have to wait much longer!
