я года два хотел эту книгу, но когда мне ее наконец достали из недр земли(спасибо другу) – мне стало лень ее читать. какой-то парадокс именно с ней. каждый раз дохожу до середины и снова отбрасываю, даже не сколько до середины, сколько до страницы двадцатой. ниче не имею против Рота, наоборот, я слишком мало о нем знаю. стиль повествования у книги неплохой, читаю на русском(Амфора), да и обоожка нравится… просто не идет чето)

I identify a lot with Marcus, and I'm not entirely sure that's a good thing. For better or worse, I really enjoyed this novel. I'm definitely going to have to read some more of Roth's work.

This book was weird, nonetheless, I couldn't put it down. Marcus is an unusual protagonist, if you can even call him that. The minor characters were extremely intriguing, and the development of Marcus' character elicited strong reactions. The ending took time to digest, but couldn't have been more appropriate.

And why is he here and not at a local college in Newark where he originally enrolled? Because his father, the sturdy, hardworking neighbourhood butcher seems to have gone mad - mad with fear and apprehension of the dangers of adult life, the dangers of the world, the dangers he sees in the every corner for his beloved boy. So Marcus leaves and, far from home, has to find his way amid the customs and constrictions of another American world. Indignation is the story of a young man's education in life's terrifying chances and bizarre obstructions. It is a story of inexperience, foolishness, intellectual resistance, sexual discovery, courage and error, told with all the inventive energy and with Roth has at his command.
