Nice prose but a story that goes nowhere with a protagonist you feel no empathy with. The main character is a misogynistic self-pitying Jew stereotype with mommy issues going through a mid-life crisis. Either this book had much deeper depths that went over my head or it was as shallow as a kiddie pool. The best part was the opening line. I’ll save you the read by making a highlight.

Just when I thought Roth couldn't take his Zuckerman hall of mirrors any further, he does. This is the most metafictional of the series, so far.
