Something I read in my youth, this one is a comfort read that I come back to every handful of years when I’ve forgotten enough details for it to remain fresh. A few key moments always remain — there are some ways that magic works in this world that I adore and it’s largely why I keep coming back. But I also didn’t even notice what fairy tale it was based off of until far too late in the book — which is a good thing to me! It’s not perfect, but it’s the only Mercedes Lackey book to capture me like this.
