This is one of the hardest books I've read in a while. I knew it was about a ballet dance and an eating discorder. But to be honest I wasn't properly prepared for the subject matter and impact of this book.
The story broke my heart and the fact that a war was started while I was reading this didn't help.
But if you can handle this book's subject matter I absolutely recommend it.

This was a great book. Once I started it it was hard to put down because I wanted to know what was going to happen next. Interesting all the way through. Now i need a book from Donovans pov so I know what happened to him when he was gone!

Really good, really HEAVY, book!

A couple things to note: this book could potentially be triggering to those who have eating disorders and/or who have been sexually assaulted or been in an abusive relationship. There are details regarding disordered eating habits especially that might be an issue to some people. The other, much less serious note, is that this is not a book about ballet.

Ballet frames the story, but it is not the driving force of the plot at all. There's a lot that happens in the book: love triangles/cheating, a teenager suffering PTSD after being kidnapped and held for 4 years, statutory rape/grooming, and many MANY conflicting feelings after discovering someone you thought you loved is not who they claimed to be. Oh, and worrying about potentially getting a ballet summer intensive, but it's a small part of the book.

I don't want to spoil anything, but the only negative I found in this book was how for 3/4 of the book, she thought of certain events as one way, then she magically connected the dots and thought about it the way I was internally screaming at her to the whole time, and it was at the last possible second for it to make a difference. I really wish there were more of a progression shown, because I feel like the author was a bit too heavy-handed with Theo's wrong way of thinking throughout the book. As a result, when the switch flipped, it seemed unnatural based on how her thoughts had been presented previously.

Overall, I really enjoyed it. I liked Little & Lion better as I identified with more in it, but this was still a great read and I will definitely keep an eye out for her next book!

There was a lot going on in this book. A lot of things that happened in this book I didn't "agree with" but I understood how it all happened the way it did. I am a little confused on the whole dance aspect of the story - i would have thought that a book named specifically after a type of dance would have more to do with dance. Instead, dance was more of a side detail. This book was pretty strong for me, but I ended up enjoying it.
