Of course Palahniuk can be raw, aggressive and dirty, but Pygmy really details a good story that reflects on our daily perception of racism, nationalism, and the sexual nature of humans. Very nice write up, and very good ending. As always.

The story had me in a few moments, and really did get better as the book went on… but mostly lost due to the use of weird “accent” that it’s written in. This ruined it for me, almost DNF early but stuck through in case it got better. The point of this seems to strengthen that the character is foreign but ended up being mostly confusing, every time I put it down it took me a whole chapter to get used to the accent again after picking it back up. I get the satire between entire world’s communism vs. USA capitalism, just a bit overkill for me. Trigger warning: brutal rape scene within the first few chapters.

An experimental novel. I found the language jarring as hell, but beat my way through to the end regardless. Pygmy had its finer points, but I wouldn't read this again!
