I absolutely love World War II historical fiction. I suppose many people do, because the influx of World War II themed historical fiction has been overwhelming over the last decade. I was lucky to receive this one directly from the author and she even signed it. Swoon. 
	This one follows the efforts of two women with little to no power at all as they try to help save Jewish refugees. While there are stories of others where were able to save hundreds of people, these women were only able to save dozens, but considering how little power women had during that time period, it was an impressive feat. What I truly enjoyed about this book was how the author focused so much on the lives of these women instead of just on the actions they took to save lives. We are able to take a deep dive into Elsa’s ascension to stardom, including her tense marriage to a powerful music conductor. We are alongside Hattie while she navigates the art world in London, and we feel her success as much as she does. I loved getting to know these women, sharing their joys and woes, even the terror when Elsa was captured. 
	This is great story, full of drama and love, intrigue, and suspense. The relationships these women have with the people in their lives is well-played out, letting the reader know what motivates them and what holds them back. I loved everything about this book.
