An interesting romp. A tale of becoming. Of growing. Of finding the strength to fight back. As with all ARs books, there’s a good mix of emotion, excitement, and energy. The technology - and it’s accessing - is ingesting (I was reminded of Frederick Pohl’s Heechee, which is no bad thing). There’s enough here for it to be a first part of something, I think.

I enjoyed this inventive sci-fi novel. Is it YA? Possibly. There’s no rape when there clearly could have been (integral to the story), and yet there’s no boy drama for this female teenaged protagonist. It’s about adventuring sisters and finding one’s own path.

Like the first book after a teenager decides to stop reading YA, and read adult books – still a heavy dish of YA, but with quite a bit of adult-ish material. 

Alistair writes yet again an enthralling, original sci-fi world that keeps you on the edge of your seat and wanting more. He knows how to give you just enough information to keep you immersed in the world, and never too much to make you snap back in front of the pages. Make no doubt - reading this book is entering another world. 

Albeit, the ending is so-so – it's original, but didn't have the impact as I was led to believe. Other than that, boy oh boy, I hope he continues writing this world.
