I absolutely loved this book. Initially I started reading it because I put the book cover up on my wall after discovering it in a search to have more diverse representation of the books in my room. It took me far too long to actually purchase the book for my classroom and then even a little longer for me to read it before placing it on the classroom shelves. I will admit that this book did not meet my expectations of a young adult novel. It's not. It's a beautiful memoir by the novelist Reyna Grande. I felt intimately connected with her life and how things wove together learning the intricate details in a book that moved slowly yet never lost its pace.
I highly recommend.
