This is a beautifully written story full of people who seem so real that if you could visit the fictional town of Mohawk, you wouldn't be surprised to bump into one of them on the street. While the setting and characters are very engaging, the book did drag for me in many places. It just seemed like it went on and on. There was no central point of conflict or escalation in conflict, thus it lacked tension for me. It was sort of like a very interesting and well-written memoir where someone chronicled the ordinary events of an ordinary life. The characters were compelling enough to keep me turning the pages, but at times, I wasn't sure if that would be enough to keep me in the story until the end. It was, but it took me a while to get there.
