A great start to this new series! If only we would've had this comfort when they rudely cancelled the exploits of our favorite teen detective, huh? The book was faithful to the voices of the characters we know so well, the pacing brisk, & the surprise twists & turns in the case what I expect of Veronica Mars. But, in all honesty, these stories can be enjoyed by people who have never watched a single episode of the shows. Like I said, a great start to what I hope is a long running series!

I have jumped on the Veronica Mars train only recently and ever since I watched the pilot-er, sorry, binge watched the series plus movie in two weeks- I was hooked.
The book picks up a few months after that piece-of-feels we call the Movie. V is back in town, back at digging up the truth, back with currently-deployed Logan.  Life should be heaven now, right?  Wrong. Mars Investigations is struggling and Keith won't even look at her with something other than regret. During spring break, a big case comes their way, and while it might help the money, it might also open old wounds.
This book is incredible. Reading feels like watching another episode. Equally suspence-filled, brillantly twisted.
One thing though: GIVE ME MORE LOGAN AND WALLACE AND WEEVIL. There, I said it.
Will definitely wait eagerly for Book Two.

If you are the fan of the show then you will enjoy the book. I'm a marshmallow and I love the fact that Veronica Mars lives on and continues where the movie leaves off. Yes, it is Logan lite but even the glimpses is better than nothing. I had many emotions reading this book. I can't wait to read the next installment. 

Would love more sassy sarcastic Veronica. I also feel that perhaps the stories could be done in first person and would feel more like the tv show.

I'm a huge fan of the series, so I was excited to read this book. It didn't disappoint. Starting where the movie ended, the novel runs pretty much like one of our beloved episodes. There's wit, fun, WTF moments and all the characters we've learned to love over the years. Personally, I received every single one of them with a gigantic smile on my face and an internal Yay! Because I miss the show so, so much. 

This time, Veronica has to investigate the disappearance of two college girls on spring break in Neptune, in a case that involves Mexican cartels, economic interests and dealing with Dumb Lamb. There are twists, there are threads to be connected and there is Veronica, missing Logan and taking care of her dad, like always.

I loved the novel, it only made me want to read more. Just more. I want more Veronica, I want more Logan, more Daddy Mars, more Mac, more everybody!

I liked the Veronica Mars TV show(s) and I enjoyed this book. It fills in some of the gaps between the original series and the reboot (along with book #2, I’m assuming). As a bonus, it’s narrated by K Bell herself!

I can't lie, I read this entire book with Kristen Bell's voice narrating in my head. It was such a feel-good book for me because it was like having a brand new episode of Veronica Mars. The mystery plots could have been done better, but I was too busy loving Veronica to care I think. There better be more soon!

I loved it. Reading this book felt exactly like watching the TV series. The voices of the characters were spot on and the mystery of the book developed just as it would have on screen. I was thrilled to be able to continue in the Veronica Mars world because it is a world I love and will revisit as often as I like.

My only complaint about this book was that it felt a little too PG-13, I expected it to be a bit more grown up, but then even that is a minor complaint. It still felt a bit like a teen drama, I was still picturing everyone like they were in high school even though I knew this book took place after the movie and their high school reunion. I think that is probably my issue and not the books, when you've spent so much time watching the TV series it can be hard to forget time moved on.

I love Veronica Mars. She's absolutely one of my favorite fictional characters of all time, and I could picture VM and the gang while reading this book. It had all the twists and turns of a VM mystery, and it stayed true to the characters. I will definitely pick up the second book in the series when it comes out in October.

I'd recommend to those of you who haven't watched the TV show and the film to do so before reading the book because, although there are some brief explanations of the backstory, there are other things that you would be missing out on. Also, this story sets off not too long after the events of the movie.
Now, the introduction that explains what has happened before did make the beginning a bit slow for me, because I already knew all that.
I would have preferred if there had been more narration from the point of view of Veronica, so as to maintain the atmosphere of the series and movie. 
Another thing that bothered me was the misuse of Spanish. For example, 'La Muerte Negro' is using a masculine adjective to describe a feminine subject. And when the expression "mami" is used, it is spelled mamÍ, which doesn't exist in any Spanish-speaking country.

Confession: I might be a little obsessed with Veronica Mars. Finding out there are not one but TWO books continuing where the series+movie left off was pretty much the best news I'd heard since finding out Joss Whedon was directing Justice League. (Genuinely sorry for your loss, Zack Snyder.)

Another confession: I never would have picked this book up if the cover wasn't graced with a stamp of V Mars branding approval. I don't usually do mystery novels, and I really don't do detective novels. But I sure as heck do V Mars anything, so there was no way this one wasn't going to find its way into my hands.

It was pretty obvious to me that this was written by someone accustomed to writing for the screen. It just didn't flow quite like a novel usually does. This wasn't necessarily off-putting-- it just sort of felt like a draft (or a script) instead of the finished product. There were a few typos as well, and all in all I didn't quite get the snarky-but-noir aura I usually get from VM. 

There were some good moments, some good jokes, and some great twists-- and a character I've been WAITING for Thomas to pull out of his VM-vault became a key player-- but overall, I think I'd rather see Veronica Mars in all her onscreen, tiny, blonde glory.

A fun summer read. The audiobook version is read by Kristen Bell and she does a great job. My only complaint was that Logan was so absent but in a way, I think it was better to have her stand alone for the first book. Waiting anxiously for the next one!

I had a lot of fun reading catching up with V. Mars and company after the events of the Veronica Mars movie. I felt like I was reading an episode of the show, which was totally OK by me. I wouldn't recommend to folks who haven't seen the show.

Looking forward to keeping up with this series as Rob Thomas writes them.

Fans of the television series will recognize the characters and setting of this story. It picks up right where the recent movie left off. I enjoyed the mystery, but missed the romance between Veronica and Logan.

I love the show, I love the movie and I love this book. 

It did take me a bit longer than I wanted to read it but not because it was bad but because I had other things to do and just didn't have time to read this in one day. I know if I didn't have anything that needed to be done I would have read it in one day because I so very much loved it and I can't wait for the next book.

I highly recommend this book but before you read this please watch the movie.

I’m in Veronica Mars heaven, guys! First the movie and now the start of a book series? I can barely sit still without squealing in excitement. Veronica Mars, as some of you know, is pretty much my favorite fictional female and I’m so glad to see her return. The Thousand Dollar Tan Line is fortunately for us, the start of a new VM book series, and it has all the mystery, heart and quirks that make Veronica Mars beloved by its fans.

Our story opens shortly after the events of the Veronica Mars movie. Veronica is still in Neptune — obviously, hello — and has taken their reigns of her fathers business while he recovers from the accident that nearly took his life. Fortunately, Veronica has the help of Mac and although they seem to be struggling with business, their spirits are pretty high and there are some great moments between the two.

(I’m totally on board with the two working together again. Love these two!)

As a fan of the show, I was surprised and happy to hear that there were books expanding the universe. When I found out that the audiobook is voiced by Kristen Bell herself, I knew it would be a good time. The story is classic Veronica Mars with the reintroduction of some great characters absent from the newer season on Hulu (this is set between the movie and the newer season). I’m not sure the new season alludes to any of the events from this but it does share some themes and events such as cartels and spring break. While the story won’t blow anyone’s mind, it is a fun revisit to the fictional town of Neptune, California.
