Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is a novella written by the Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson and first published in 1886. It is about a London lawyer who investigates strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr Henry Jekyll, and the misanthropic Edward Hyde. The work is known for its vivid portrayal of a split personality, split in the sense that within the same person there is both an apparently good and an evil personality each being quite distinct from each other; in mainstream culture the very phrase "Jekyll and Hyde" has come to mean a person who is vastly different in moral character from one situation to the next. This is different from multiple personality disorder where the different personalities do not necessarily differ in any moral sense. Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde was an immediate success and one of Stevenson's best-selling works. Stage adaptations began in Boston and London within a year of its publication and it has gone on to inspire scores of major film and stage performances.

It was a somewhat shorter book than I expected but I thought overall it was pretty good.

I don’t think I would read it again but I’m glad that now I know the story and I think that more than the actual story itself and the events, I really like the symbolism of it and the message behind the story.

I would recommend reading it if you haven’t before but I would say that it’s a quick and easy read and probably not something super intense or interesting as books from a similar genre tend to be.

Dr. Jekyll invents a drug that changes him into Mr. Hyde, a foul-tempered, uncouth degenerate. His evil nature, however, becomes the stronger part of him and, to his horror, he no longer needs the formula to transform his appearance.

Quite straight forward theme, duality of man. Good and evil within each of us. Yin and Yang. I also wonder if Hyde's last name is a play of "hide", as in the hidden dark side, or I'm just looking way too much into it. Would be cool tho.

Wasn't the best, my favorite story from the collection was "The Body Snatcher". I think this one was worth 5 stars but overall 3.5/5.

Well worth the price of admission for "A Lodging" and "The Young Man With The Cream Tarts" alone, both of which belong on the highest shelf of the short-story cabinet.

I enjoyed these stories a lot more than I was expecting. I think Dr Jekyll and the Body Snatcher were my two favorites.
