           I wanted to like this book. I love off-beat magical-realism books that don't take themselves too seriously.Going Bovine by Libba Bray is one of my favorite YA books. However, this left something to be desired and I found myself skimming through towards the end. Another reviewer commented that the book felt weird for the sake of being weird, and I agree. The whole augmented identity of Eunice/Eurydice was weird - though I did like the scene in the coffee shop. The names of characters really got on my nerves and trying to keep track of who was who in what chapter was exhausting and ridiculous. The ending with the whole "Gauntlet of Realities" thing seemed so corny and false to me. I did like the idea of Idea and Reacher being two fractured halves of a whole person, but the way the author spells everything out is just corny and bad. Sorry. I want to recommend this on the concept alone, but the book is weighed down by subpar writing, awkward names, confusing structure and too much strangeness.
