Out of the four Freedman books that I read today (October 18, 2021), I enjoyed this one the least. Freedman did an admirable job covering war of this scope and complexity and conveying the crucial information for readers of upper elementary to lower middle grades age/reading level. However, it did not have the same spark that the other three books I read had. In those books, the photographs blended seamlessly into the narrative. In this book, they simply sat there on the page, sometimes illustrating something in the paragraph beside it, sometimes not. 
I still find this to be an excellent book on the topic, just not one of Freedman's best.
