The plot was non-existent at best and utter bullshit at worst. The plot twists didn't make any sense in terms of character continuity (or common sense). The writing style was so ridiculously bad I can't even believe this was the same woman that wrote Throne of glass. The world was so weird, as well, it took me 600 pages to get used to it.

Sadly, I did not care for any character except one who died at the end so I don't really have anyone left to root for. For one flicker of a moment, I thought Bryce and Hunt could become interesting but then he pulled that random bullshit which made no sense at all (literally what was his plan other than being dumb af?) and I lost interest again. Bryce was interesting when she had no powers and managed to remain alive but it got boring when she got all of that power from the gates. Not that it wasn't obvious from the start that this would happen.

The 3 stars are only due to me being actually sad about one death so the book gets some points for evoking some emotions in me. Most of it was just annoyance tho. I'm not sure I'm gonna bother with the series.

I was so hesitant to start CC after finishing the ACOTAR series but honestly I got so swept up so quickly. I love the depth of the female lead and the mental health element clear in this book. It’s addicting and the male lead is just as delicious. Not as much smut and slow burning for sure but it’s sooooo worth it. I just adore SJM.
