I liked this book, but it wasn't a favorite. The writing style was only so-so, but the idea and characters were fascinating!

If I didn't have to read this book for a school report, I probably wouldnn't of read it. I rated this book a 2/5 because it just wasn't something that interested me or connected with me. I liked Ramun Salazar's character. He seemed like a shy boy, but he had big thoughts. I really liked O'Dell's aura of mystery written into this book. This book really helped my learn more about the country of Mexico and it's origin. I would not request this book, because it seems to move slowly. There are lots of big words that I, being 13, had to look up. 

Overall, this book wasn't a favorite. If you are going to read something by Scott O'Dell, read "Island of the Blue Dolphins".
