This book was better than the first. First of all, things actually happen, there are some answers, and there is character development! That being said, the events are still poorly described at times and I had to reread pages to figure out where I missed the context/change in scene. Still interesting enough plot line that I will continue reading and I did enjoy this book more.

This was very middle of the road fantsy read for me. I went into this series without any expectations, thankfully. 
What I liked about the book: how close the FMC was with her bestie and considered her as family. The broody MMC love interest. The attempt at bringing the fantasy world into the 21st century. The twists and turns of figuring out Underhill’s demise. 

Where it fell short: first and foremost, some of the words used were very cringey- she continuous called the MMC a “bad boy” and the descriptions of her friend have big boobs. And some of the banter was just…cringe. I feel like the characters lacked depth and the main character was bland. There was a lack of chemistry between the love interests. I also guess who the “real” villian was early on.

Much better pacing in this than the first in the series though that cliffhanger was not nice at all. Some of the twists in this were a little obvious but I enjoyed their reveals nonetheless. It was nice to see Kallik learn more of her own magic and herself, really getting a chance to find herself for the first time instead of being told what to be. Though plenty of people do that too. I look forward to seeing the conclusion of this story with the Seelie and Unseelie courts. Faolan too. Sometimes I love him and sometimes I hate him. Seeing him with Kallik for the majority of this book was so interesting, the ups and downs in their relationship and trying to figure out where they stand. I am so excited for the next book.
