I'm starting to become a big fan of Deborah Ellis. I suppose I was before, but I never really noticed. She wrote The Breadwinner trilogy, a vastly underrated series that I loved unequivocally, and since reading that I've discovered that she wrote quite a few of the Dear Canada books I read when I was a child. I didn't even know that she had this short story collection, but thank goodness for library browsing features. In case you couldn't tell, each of the stories in this collection revolve around a different chair of some sort. Some of the stories are light, some have a deeper subject matter. All were excellent and I looked forward to reading one each day (I'm reading a short story a day in 2021, in case you didn't get the memo). Not a single story had a rating below 3, which is rare, I think. Even looking back, I would say they likely deserve a higher rating anyhow. Reading this (in combination with her other works) means I will now definitely be keeping my eye out for when Deborah Ellis publishes any new works.
