I got State of Sorrow in a FairyLoot Box last year and it was one of the books I read almost immediately. 
I was sucked into the sad world of Laethea and hooked at the first mention of melting eyes! After that I devoured it and waiting for book two after that ending has been hard! 

I was one of the fortunate customers, who having pre-ordered the beautiful - and exclusive - version from Waterstones received my copy well before the official release date of 7th March. As soon as it arrived, I happily dipped back in and I was not disappointed.

Even darker than the first and with Vespus (eugh, I cant stand him!) and his new wife Taasa (who reminded me a lot of Dru in Buffy - damaged but scarily powerful) showing Sorrow exactly how far he is willing to go she really was really backed into a corner. One filled with the bodies of her friends (including his own son) if she doesn't do as he wants.

As the reader, we know Sorrow could have told her friends what was going on, but faced with the same threats and a secret only she and Charon know about, we would likely make the same decisions and unintentionally isolate ourselves further, which is exactly what Sorrow did. It is easy to forget that she is only 18. I am glad however that this isolation didn't last too long and I adored their 'intervention', forcing Sorrow to include them and allowing us to venture down other plot lines and giving our characters more layers to explore.

Rasmus broke my heart, despite everything, still hoping. But being the best kind of friend by telling Sorrow to go to Luvian because he could see that they liked each other. S & L's blossoming relationship is just the sweetest - I cannot get enough of Luvian, and I fully admit, a little in love with him, who doesn't want their own personal librarian? However, all of the feel belong to Mael and Arkady!

A lot happens, and then it happens really fast, and then its over in the most spectacular and deserving way. Skipping forward 3 months for the final chapter was just perfect, we needed that. Simple, pure, and a little like coming home.
