Post-breakup, Avery gets to thinking about all of the guys that she has ever dated. How come none of those relationships ever worked out? Could it be her fault? Avery decides to investigate. In history class she's learning about this method of record-keeping called "oral history" and she has a report due. So Avery decides to go directly to the source. Avery tracks down all of the guys she's ever dated, and uses that information along with her friends, family, and even teachers thoughts, to compile a total account of her dating history. Avery discovers some surprises about herself and the guys she's spent time with just in time for prom night!

I read this like 4 years ago but I still remember it because it was impeccable. Even though I have not read it in two years I do believe I'd like it just as much as the first time. My taste has changed but it would never change for this book.

As the synopsis states, this story is about a girl who has never been single. NEVER! She's always dating someone, but prom is near and she just got dumped. A class assignment is handed out and Avery decides to do it on her past relationships and why they didn't work out.

Avery's story was slightly comedic and at times, fun. I enjoyed her story and all of her thoughts and footnotes added to the research. I also loved the format of the story! All of the book was written in a sort of interview format. I thought this was a great way to tell Avery's story and I never got lost with the characters and all the ex-boyfriends.

My major complaint is that for 288 pages, this book felt so unbelievably long! It took me 4 days when a book like this could have taken me a day or two. It got to a point that I would get bored and kept reading only to see what the outcome of the story was, which I did like, thankfully.

Overall, It's Not Me, It's You is a very cute novel with a great format, but it felt extremely long for a short book.

A librarian recommended this to me after I told her I was in the biggest reading slump of my life and the last great book I read was the To All the Boys series by Jenny Han. The style of this book was interesting. It's all dialogue and commentary like if you're reading a script. And so, so cute and funny. I was so wrapped up in Avery's dating history that I didn't realize until nearing the end what was going to end up happening. Once you realize it and think about, you kind of know that it was the end game all along. Loved it so much. Can't wait to read her other books!
