I honestly believe the Twilight Saga is one of the most poorly judged series. While I enjoy the movies still, they failed to capture aspects of the books that made them marvelous. Perhaps I'm a bit biased since this is the first series I ever read and it holds a spot in my heart, but my belief stands that the saga was judged terribly by critics and those that had never even read the books and were only going by the movies. It's not a perfect series because there's no such thing. It has flaws like all books do, but I still think it's harshly judged due to the cinematic adaption. 

Nevertheless, the Twilight Saga gives you a unique twist to vampires ( you have to give Stephanie Meyer credit for sticking to her original concept for them ) and it offers characters with interesting and compelling backstories. From the Olympic Coven to the Egyptian Coven, each character has a voice, a personality, and a background that captured my attention greatly. And while most judge Bella and Edward as well, I find them to be written stunningly. They're not dull or boring. If people bothered to read the books without going in thinking they'll hate it, they'll find it to be a pretty good YA series. 

While I do believe Breaking Dawn was where the saga lost track ( although it did introduce many interesting characters ), I still find the books to be one of my favorite series. It was judged too quickly because of movies that never quite gave the characters / story justice.

It's not Shakespeare. It's not Dickens. It's not even Harry Potter. Go in understanding that, and you might actually enjoy them. I held out as long as I could, but before the first movie came out, I got sick of everyone talking about them and me being clueless. So, I caved. And then - I read every. single. one. How long did it take? About a week. I could not put them down. That being said - I cannot stand the first movie, I fell asleep during the first 20 minutes, and it was awkward and horrible. I haven't been able to bring myself to watch the subsequent movies, for fear they won't do justice to the epic saga I had in my head. If you're going to decide between "waiting for the movie" or actually reading the books - read the books. They're worth it. File under "guilty pleasure" and "books I loved but might not admit I've actually read."

Read this when I was bored in CompSci classes. Boring storyline but good writing skills... Hopefully Stephenie Meyer will write better stories after this...

The funny thing was that till book 2, I didn't realize that it was written by Stephenie. I thought it was some famous author called Stephen Meyer. I guess that says something about her writing style, which is pretty good. 

Of course, as soon as I hit the long and winding female inner monologue, I realized that this could only be written by a girl, so I wikipedia'd Stephenie Meyer... :P

The books are not very well written but are perfect for a young reader. I definitely enjoyed them as a preteen and would recommend from any ages above 11. I would also encourage to read before viewing the films.
