Book Chat: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Unfortunately my excitement about this book was diminished by the middle. It’s a story about the real Lady Macbeth, the wife to the man who inspired Shakespeare. I love books set deep in the Scottish highlands and I could imagine the surrounding as I read about young, strong Rue (Lady Macbeth) as she tried to prove she was just as worthy as any boy. .

Rue has royal blood in her veins and holds a very powerful position, inheritance and (supernatural?) power. She is sought after by several suitors and though she is resistant, soon she is married off. Her marriage is short lived as Macbeth, known as a very skilled warrior, allegedly kills her husband and comes to the castle to marry her as his reward. .

The novel takes us through Rue’s life as the wife of landowners and a woman who just wants to be taken seriously, especially since it’s her land her husbands rule upon. .

What I didn’t like: Celtic names are confusing but I felt like this book made them extra confusing by applying several names to one person! I really felt like nothing really happened in this book. I felt as though I was waiting and waiting but when something seemed to be reading a climatic point it defended rather quickly and I was left with a ‘that’s it?’ kind of feeling. .

Leaving things on a positive note: I’ve been to the castle featured on the cover and got to walk around the little hamlet next to it. Such a beautiful landscape! .
